Embekka Devalaya is a charming attraction that richly deserves a place in your travel itinerary when you visit Kandy. This temple, which is dedicated to the local deity of Kataragama deviyo has gorgeously ornate wood carvings which have greatly heightened its unique appeal. It is believed that Embekke Devale was built by King Vikramabahu III of Gampola Era (1357 A.D. to 1374 A.D.). The temple has three sections namely the “Dancing Hall”, the “Drummers’ Hall” and the “Sanctum of Garagha”.
