Sprawled across a whopping 60 hectares, the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens enjoys the honour of being the largest botanical garden on the island of Sri Lanka. Set up as early as 1371, the former royal garden of Sri Lankan monarchs, including King Kirti Sri Rajasinghe, is a breath-taking horticultural hub home to 300 orchid varieties as well as plants with medicinal values. The Peradeniya garden is a birdwatcher’s dream destination, home to 80 butterfly species and birds thus making it a must do in Kandy.
