A sun-kissed beach destination, Maldives is a year-round destination. You are sure to fall in love with the wonderful weather no matter when you visit. However, depending on what you want to do, here’s a monthly break-up of the climatic conditions in Maldives:
November – April: These months are the summer in Maldives and it is also the peak tourist season. Between November and April, the island boasts of dry weather. There will be little to no rain showers during this time, hence, making it ideal for tourists to travel.
May – October: Mostly defined by the monsoons, which generally last from May-end to October, the weather during this time is mostly wet. Make sure you carry an umbrella when you go out. Some resorts offer great deals during this time considered as off peak, which budget travellers can keep a track of.
For divers, both the dry and wet seasons have their advantages: during the dry season, visibility is superb, due to currents beginning to flow in November from the northeast; the currents start to weaken in February. During the wet season, the water temperatures are a couple of degrees lower, and this seems to inspire larger numbers of hammerhead sharks and reef sharks to gather, and to do so in shallower waters than in the dry season.
You might find it imperative to understand the fact that Maldives is a country which has several festivities all year round and visiting it within one of these is an great way to boost your enjoyment.
The month of Ramazan is when you really won’t get any food during the day. However if you opt to stay in a resort, getting food would not be a problem. If you arrive during the last few days of Ramazan you will experience the festivities of a lifetime during and following the last day of Ramazan.
This is the time of the year when the people of all kinds and ages get together and celebrate the auspicious occasion of Eid. You would get to see several shows organized by the schools which includes parades and concerts and even tournaments everywhere across the Maldives.
Football, being the national sport, is played during every Eid giving the chance for youngsters to love the sport and to build up a bond between each other. Surely an evening of Eid would have so many different activities packed into it.
Some might find it convenient to travel to Maldives during December because of the winter in western countries. Probably – if you want to spend a warm, sunny sort of Christmas with your family. For such reasons, some of the resorts do have all-inclusive vacation packages.
