Sri Lanka Tourism Carrying Out Multi-Platform Promotional Campaigns

Sri Lanka Tourism is carrying out multi-platform promotional campaigns while the digital campaign is in the final stages of evaluation process, to be submitted for cabinet approval in early part of July 2018. The campaigns have focused on key international markets including Europe, Middle East, China, India, APAC and the USA. SLTPB has commenced a 3-month CNN global advertising campaign which is currently in progress, to depict Sri Lanka’s identity to the world as a tourism hot spot.
Over the last 12 months, Sri Lanka Tourism has expanded its successful social media travel influencers programme and visiting travel writer’s programme as well. From May 2017 to April 2018, over 30 social media travel influencers have visited Sri Lanka, resulting in an overall social media reach of 65 million and a total engagement of 12.5 million on social media platforms including Instagram, YouTube and Facebook.

Monthly Tourists Arrival Report

The total number of international tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka during July 2018 was 217,829.
In comparison to July last year, there is a growth of 6.0% when the arrivals were 205,482.This month, the largest source market for tourists is India, followed by China and United Kingdom.
Almost 99% of tourists travelled by air to Sri Lanka. As at 31 st July 2018, 1,382,476 tourists had visited Sri Lanka for this year. It is a 13.7% growth over last year when 1,215,926 tourists had visited the country during the same period. (Source: SLTDA)

BIA to get a domestic flight terminal

The Government is to build a separate new terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for the use of domestic flights in order to promote domestic air travel for the benefit of tourists, with the development of all domestic airports and using bigger aircraft.
