Gregory Lake is located about one kilometer away from Nuwara Eliya town. It was built by Governor Gregory during the year 1874.
Gregory Lake is one of the main tourist attractions in the town. There are breathtakingly beautiful views surrounding the lake. You can do boating and rowing, rides in swan-shaped paddle boats or jet skiing.
Gregory Lake is one of the family-friendly locations of Sri Lanka, attracting many holiday-makers who visit the city. The view surrounding the lake is fascinatingly beautiful.
You can go for horse riding, or you can enjoy an amazing balloon ride in the lake; they unzip a huge plastic balloon, you go inside and they inflate the balloon. Finally, they push the balloon and you will be floating on the lake. You can’t hear any noise from outside. You have to push the balloon to move. This is an experience enjoyed by old and young alike.
Seaplanes from Colombo land on Gregory Lake and the journey from Colombo takes around 30 minutes by seaplane. Gregory Lake is located approximately 20min from our bungalows in Nuwara Eliya – The Oliphant.
