Located on Kikiliyamana Mountain road, Shanthipura is the highest village in the country. It is one of the 18 villages started by one of the former Mayors in Nuwara Eliya in the early 60s.
It’s not far out of town, going a couple of kilometers up a windy road you will reach there. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
When you reach the village there is a viewpoint from where you could see the encircling views of the Nuwara Eliya town. You can see Pidurutalagala, Kikiliyamana, Adam’s Peak, Gregory’s Lake, Hakgala Mountain, and Nuwara Eliya town from this viewpoint. The view from the observation deck is stunning and it’s an experience every visitor to Nuwara Eliya must have.
When you reach Shanthipura, you will see a beautiful Buddhist pagoda which is regarded as the tallest place of the village. You will be fascinated to see the lifestyle of the villagers and their cultivation on the slopes.
There is also a point known as Kalapura within the village of Shanthipura The spot is very photogenic and widely used in photography.
