Located in a beautiful Southern coastal town, between the towns of Dickwella and Kudawella, lies Hummanaya a natural blow hole, adding another attraction to the long list of attractions Sri Lanka offers to its visitors. Hummanaya is the only natural blowhole in the country and regarded as the second-tallest blowhole in the world.
It sprays a tower of water often reaching as high as 25-metres to 30-metres. It’s a wonderful experience to witness, the spraying of glittering water and this natural marvel is one of many attractions to witness during your coastal holiday.
The sea water flows underneath the shore, and then comes out of this hole due to pressure. The water shoots up every couple of minutes, depending on the nature of the sea.
This is a rare and exciting natural sight worth seeing. This site has now been developed into a tourist attraction.
Hummanaya is approximately a half-day’s drive away from the cities of Colombo, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. The Southern Expressway greatly reduces this time so you can choose not only accommodation in the Southern Province but you can also consider hotels in Kandy and hotels in Colombo as well.
