Hiking in Ella

Some of the most gorgeous scenery in Sri Lanka awaits you on the hiking trails around Ella in the Hill Country. Hiking to Ella Rock is the most popular hiking trail around hill country. It is a reasonably challenging hike that you can complete within a few hours and offers you exceptionally beautiful views. It’s better to start early to avoid the heat and afternoon rain showers. This is a slightly more complicated hike with little or no indications along the way. Therefore its advisable to get accurate and detailed directions, a route map and a list of important tips before you start. Once at the summit, take your time to enjoy the magnificent view which is one of the finest in Sri Lanka.

Little Adam’s Peak

Little Adam’s Peak is a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll even in the afternoon, if you can escape the possible afternoon rain showers. Somewhat similar in shape of Adam’s Peak, Little Adam’s Peak is a short hike which does not require great efforts. Yet the spectacular view is rewarding compared to the effort. Part of the path takes you through a tea estate with smiling tea puckers. To reach there, take the Ella-Passara Road from town and turn right. The final 20 minutes are steep but otherwise it’s an easy walk.

Lakegala Mountain Hike

Lakegala Mountain, which is in the Knuckles mountain range, is believed to be the place where King Ravana lifted his historical aeroplane called Dhandu Monara. Lakegala Mountain is one of the steepest mountains hence became a hiker’s paradise and a destination for best adventure vacations. The mountain is 1,310 metres tall and the hike gives you an opportunity to have enchanting views from the top of the mountain. Being a dynamic holiday destination in Sri Lanka, a visit here will definitely be a thrilling experience.

Hiking Trails in Horton Plains

Baker’s Falls, World’s End & Mini-World’s End circular trail is the most traveled trails in the Horton Plains National Park, as it covers the three most popular attractions of this National Park. The trail to Thotupola Kanda will let you experience the unique forest environment of Horton plains with lowest efforts. On a clear day, you will be able to enjoy the breath-taking view of the surrounding grasslands and forest patches of Horton Plains from the peak. Although Thotupola Kanda is the third highest peak in Sri Lanka, the trail is not very challenging. Most hike enthusiasts who visit the famous Nuwara Eliya holiday bungalows choose to go on this trail.
