Diabetes is one of the most common health problems in the world. Wrong life styles block your body’s natural ability to respond to Insulin. This will eventually lead to deviations in metabolism leading to elevated blood sugar levels. According to Ayurveda there are 20 forms of diabetes. 4 due to ‘vatha’, 6 from ‘pitha’ and 10 from ‘kappa’. All forms of these, if left untreated, will end up as a condition called ‘madumehaya’ (Diabetes Mellitus).
There are several wrong habits causing an increase of ‘kapha dosha’ such as over consumption of sugar, fats & carbohydrates, lack of physical activities, mental stress and strain, etc. Some lifestyle changes can help you maintain and regulate sugar. Ginger tea, widely consumed in Sri Lanka, helps stimulate digestion that is beneficial in reducing the excess ‘kapha’ in your system.
One of the methods to heal this decease includes regular exercises. Regular exercise in any form is a must. Some Yoga “asana” are effective in reducing weight and stress thus causing a drop in blood sugar.
