The ancient Bo Tree is the southern branch of the tree under which Lord Buddha attained Nibbana. It is also the longest living tree that is known to mankind. The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi holds so much religious value and importance and many pilgrims come to worship it daily. There are also many stupas that hold a great deal of religious value. Among them, Ruwanwelisaya holds the most number of relics of Lord Buddha inside its shrine. The stupa was built by King Dutugemunu. Other stupas such as, Thuparama, Mirisavetiya, Abhayagiriya, Lankarama and Jetavanarama are also must see stupas if you are in Anuradhapura.
Anuradhapura is a sacred city and therefore, it is advised that you dress modestly when you visit. Wearing white when you are visiting the sacred sites and temples show respect and is highly recommended.
