It’s less than a 3-hour journey and is 115 Km away from the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Yes, shorts are not allowed and you must always wear modest clothing with shirts / blouses with sleeves and pants / skirts that cover your knees. It’s a religious site. However, if you are in sleeveless attire, you can always drape a scarf around your shoulders.

The weather in Kandy is mostly balmy and cool in the evenings with the mountains surrounding the city. In the mornings and afternoons, it can be quite warm, but it’s not as humid as Colombo. You can experience mild showers during the monsoon season too.

The temple of the tooth is one of the most visited sites in Kandy with historical and religious significance. The Kandy lake and Kandy view point are also places of interest. Don’t forget to visit the Botanical Gardens if you love flora and fauna. It’s home to over 4000 species of plants.

Kandy is a relatively laid-back city and things tend to be calm and quiet at night. However, Amaya Hills houses the most popular nightclub Le Garage where the weekends are exciting along with the Dumbara Bar, the resort’s rooftop bar with some stunning views and cocktails. The city of Kandy also offers both old and modern pubs and restaurants.

The Esala Perahera is usually held in July or August annually to pay homage to the sacred Tooth Relic of lord Buddha. It definitely is a must see if you are in Sri Lanka and Amaya Hills offers some fantastic rates along with a shuttle service to take you to the Perahera and back.
