The majestic Lankatilaka temple dates back to the 14th century and is located in Kandy district. This historic temple was built by King Buwanekabahu the fourth and combines beautiful design elements of the Polonnaruwa era architecture. The temple was designed by the South Indian architect Sthapati Rayar, and initially built on uneven bedrock using a granite base foundation. With the premises comprising three sectors, the actual temple building is considered one, with the Dagoba and Bo tree being the other two points of interest.
